Direct Query Data not Refreshing

I'm on the latest version of Power BI Desktop.  I create a Direct Query connection to a SQL data source.  In Transform data I can see the new data coming in when I refresh.  Filter the data to the last 60 minutes.  The data table gets new data every 10 seconds.

In visual I create a table and drop timestamp into the field well.  I get a list of timestamps.  Wait a bit (30 seconds).  Refesh the visuals.  The data in the table doesn't change.  

Nothing I do gets the data to change in the visual.  I can make any kind of visual, chart, table, graph and they all act the same.

Am I doing something wrong?

From the document can see:

With DirectQuery, when you create or interact with a visualization, you must query the underlying source. The time that's needed to refresh the visualization depends on the performance of the underlying data source. If the data needed to service the request was recently requested, Power BI Desktop uses the recent data to reduce the time required to show the visualization. Selecting Refresh from the Home ribbon refreshes all visualizations with current data.

You can also use Performance Analyzer to view the queries that Power BI sends to the data source, and their execution times.

If I had meant Automatic Refesh I would have said so.  I'm talking about reguler, everyday, refresh.  Just press the refresh button.  It seems to work but the data in the visuals doesn't change.
