Different context in Excel & PBI Desktop when using PBI Shared Dataset
Hello everyone,
I am using the Power BI shared dataset as a datasource in the Excel, and we have been trying to plot a simple tabular data in the Excel.
We are using fields from multiple tables and measures in the table, but we noticed that the same tabular information when plotted in PBI Desktop shows the correct result but it isn't showing the correct value when plotted in Excel file. It seems that 1-2 fields are removing the filter context.
Has anyone faced this situation? Or does anyone know about any limitations of using Power BI shared dataset as datasource in Excel?
Please guide.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, rajulshah
Here are things to keep in mind for connecting to Power BI datasets in Excel:
- Excel PivotTables don't support drag-and-drop aggregation of numeric fields. Your dataset in Power BI must have pre-defined measures. Read about creating measures.

I don't think so any screenshot or measures' formula is needed here. Just the 2 columns aren't being plotted in the correct context. We have noticed one thing that the columns being plotted are from 2 different tables which are related via many-to-many relationship.
Please let me know if you have any idea about it.
