Designing Home Page leading to 18 Pages ?

Good Morning,

I wish to request advice on the best way to construct a Home Page, for a dashboard with 18 Pages....I have used Page Navigator  but the Home Page is looking cluttered and untidy.

Kind Regards

Hi @F_Reh ,

Great question! Designing a Home Page for a dashboard with so many pages can definitely get overwhelming. Here are some best practices and creative ideas to keep your Home Page clean and user-friendly:

1. Use Grouped Navigation:

  • Instead of listing all 18 pages directly, group them into logical categories (e.g., Sales, Finance, Operations).
  • You can use bookmarks or buttons that reveal sub-menus or navigation panels for each group, reducing clutter on the main Home Page.

2. Collapsible Menus with Bookmarks:

  • Create collapsible/expandable menu sections using bookmarks and selection panes. Users click a group button to reveal relevant page links.
  • This approach mimics modern web dashboards and keeps your layout tidy.

3. Visual Navigation Elements:

  • Use icons, images, or custom shapes for each group or key report. This makes the home page visually appealing and helps users scan quickly.
  • For example, use card-style buttons with clear labels.

4. Search or Quick Links Panel:

  • Add a search box (text box with instructions) or a “Most Used Pages” quick link section to highlight the most important destinations.

5. Tooltip Guidance:

  • Add tooltips to navigation buttons so users know what each section or page is about before clicking.

6. Navigation Templates:

  • Consider using Power BI navigation templates from the community or marketplaces. Many offer clean, scalable navigation designs that you can adapt.

7. Hide Default Tabs:

  • Turn off the default page tabs in Power BI (View > Show Tabs) and rely fully on your custom navigation for a more streamlined look.

Summary Flow:

  • Group related pages > Use bookmarks for collapsible menus > Add visual buttons/icons > Highlight key or popular pages.

If you’d like, I can share sample PBIX files or step-by-step instructions for any of these techniques. Let me know which approach you want to explore!

I appreciate these points - there are several new concepts I haven't come across before...So if you could kindly share samples so I can visualise the output of these methods and then I can decide which one is most appropriate.
