Deploying model using SSAS wizard

Deploying SSAS solution using the SSAS wizard removes the password form the .asdatabase file. We have to connect to the SSAS database and update the password manually, one by one, once the deployment wizard is run. Any ideas on how to make sure the SSAS database is deployed with the password in place?

@reggdsouza

Are you using Power BI Desktop to get data from the SSAS database? Could you please post some screenshots for your problem here?

Best Regards,
Herbert

Yes, we use power bi desktop to retrieve data from the SSAS model.

The error is pretty generic. Screenshot below:

This is fixed by going to Management Studio, and updating the connection password for the SSAS model being used. It wourked on version 16 of the deployment wizard. We recently installed the latest version(17), where this issue occurs.

@reggdsouza

Are you using the built-in SQL Server Analysis Services database connector in latest version 2.52.4921.581 (November 2017)?

What is the details content by clicking "Copy Details"?

Herbert

@v-haibl-msftAny ideas on this? Were you able to replicate the issue?

@reggdsouza

I don't see any issue when connecting to SSAS using the built-in Analysis Services connector. It seems that you're still using the July 2017 version of PBI Desktop, could you please have a try with the latest one - Version: 2.52.4921.581 (November 2017)?

Lets step back a bit. After deploying an SSAS database using the SSAS deployment wizard in silent mode, we get a similar error when we try to run a MDX query in SQL Server Management Studio. We are using the latest version.

Error below:

SSASerror2.PNG

SSMS version:

SSASerror3.PNG

Once we enter the password for the SSAS database connection in SSMS, the error goes away.

The process worked well in version 16. But in the latest version, it does not work as expected.

Also tested with power bi desktop November release. Same Error.

I have the same problem.

I cannot build the cube in SSAS thus not connect from PowerBI.

If I enter the User/Password in the DataSource again, it works.

So this is at least a workaround.

Thats the error message when I do copy info. The whole issue is that it does not store the password on deployment, and we have to enter the SSAS database passwords manaully through SSMS.
