I have created a column in the format of FY19 Q1 on my Dim-Date table that I intend to use for fiscal quarter date sorting. I am using tihs same column in a line chart and a matrix table. The matrix table sorts correctly, the line chart doesn't, in fact it seems to be sorting descending from largest amount on the left, to smallest amount on the right. I've tried everythiing I can think of to get it to sort by date. Any thoughts?

Finally, you explained the full issue. Yes, it is a known issue (or how it works) if you are using field parameters, it doesn't retain the sort order. I would recommend using calculation groups to switch between measures (you will get the same result as FP) but it will retain the sort order. That is what you need to do.

Sorry, I wasn't fully explaining, I'm new to power BI, I will explore Calculation groups. Thank you for your reply.
What do you mean by doesn't stay that way? When it is changing automatically?

It's a report of sales/booking data and I have it hooked up to a parameter so that they can switch between viewing Sales dollars, sales units, average deal size, amd attach rate. So say I'm viewing sales units in a quarterly timeline, I set the line graph to sort ascending, I then toggle to view the dollars in the parameter, if I then switch back to units, my sorts don't hold and I have to reapply the sort by ascending.
My ask from my executives is to have that sort be default so there's no need to do that every time you switch parameters. In other words, there is not a scenario where anyone would want to see the data not in chronological timeline order.
Option to sort axis is available in the options for a visual. In sort axis, the values on the x and y axis can be sorted in desired order.
@Dev_B_PBIing click on top of the line visual (3 dots) and you can change the sorting order and sorting column there.

Yes, when I do that it doesn't hold the sort though. when I told it to sort ascending it does fix it, but it doesn't stay that way. Is there a way to make it remain in ascending order?
