Data refresh from AAS

Hi ,

I have a model deployed to AAS. Can I refresh the data from AAS or I have to do it from SSMS only ?

Hey,

first I assume that "AAS" means Azure Analysis Services, and you are talking about this SaaS:https:

//azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/analysis-services/

Unfortunately he information you provided is a little vague (at least to me):

"... model deployed to AAS"

I guess that you used either the web designer and imported a PBI Desktop file or used SQL Server Data Tools to deploy your tabular model to an instance of Analysis Services on Azure.

and the question you ask refers to the large area of deployment and "productionizing":

"... refresh the data from ..."

So, please excuse my answer to your question that starts with:

Unfortunately not and it depends ...

Unfortunately you can't issue a command from AAS that refreshes the data model, by this I mean from the Azure portal.x

Maybe the most obvious answer

• Refresh the AAS data model using SSMS
  This is a manual approach and should be avoided
• Using the AAS Rest API

• Using TMSL (Tabular Model Scritpting Language) command

I guess this is not the answer you were looking for, please provide some more details to your requirements.

Thanks Tom for the quick response.

Yes you got it right.

Lets say I have tabular model created in SSDT and have deployed it to Azure Analysis Services.

Now I want to automate the refresh. Also I want to refresh the data on ad-hoc basis.

So looks like AAS portal doesnt have feature to refresh the data. And we have to do it from SSMS if we ad-hoc refresh else the scripting method.
