Data connections

Howdy Folks,

I am VERY new to Power BI; so thanks in advance for your help.  Among the many things I am unclear on, this is the most pressing issue for me: connecting a csv file to Power BI and keeping it updated as new info becomes availible.

My situation:

I get a daily report automatically emailed to me in csv format from a web service we use.  I was asked to look into using Power BI to analyze and display the data in an extremly easy to consume way, that made important bussiness descisions fast and easy to disern.   I imported the report into the desktop aplication for Power BI and started to play around making graphs and tables.  It looks as though I will also need to manipulate the data from the csv with the power query editor (I am still trying to get it to cooporate).

But, now that I made a quick report from last weeks really old data.  How do I put the new data in place of the old data?  Will Power BI automatically do the things I did in the power query editor to the new data?  Whats the best way to automate this (if any)?  Also, if you think I am missing any key considerations please let me know.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi @Anonymous ,

When you connect .csv file, you can only update data by Refresh manually in power bi desktop: refresh.png

If you want to update automatically, you can publish this report to power bi service and configure Scheduled refresh to update data.

Please refer the following microsoft document that could help you:

  1. Data refresh
  2. Configure scheduled refresh
