Hi,
I have 2 relational tables:
In excel:
The first table has numbers stored as numbers
The second table has numbers stored as text
In Power BI:
The first table has Data Type: Whole Number
The second table has Data Type: Whole Number
So it appears that Power BI has identified the numbers stored as text and automatically converted them to be stored as numbers. That's great however Power BI then fails to be able to link the two tables. If I go back to excel and create a new field in the second table that stores the numbers as numbers, then I can link to this field successfully in Power BI.
Is converting data types within Power BI ineffective/unreliable?
Hi @CloudMonkey,
According to your description above, I also tested it on my environment, and it works all fine without any issue.
That's great however Power BI then fails to be able to link the two tables.
Have you received any error when trying to link the two tables?
Could you post some sample data which can reproduce the issue? So that we can help further investigate on it.![]()
Regards
It works fine with me as you can see in this video.
Possibly your case is different and we'll be better to help if you provide more specifics.
