Data Refresh

Recently after refreshing my dataset each visual including the slicers show "Visual has pending changes" and you have click refresh.  Is this a result of a resent change to Power BI. Typically once I refresh the dataset all the visuals update automatically.  Is there anyway to get past this. Thanks for your help.

Glad you figured it out! The "Paused Visuals" setting under Optimization can definitely cause confusion. Good catch—thanks for sharing the solution!

Hi @cheid_4838

This isn’t a product change. That message appears when visuals are paused or when Apply buttons are enabled.

Could you please try below steps:

  1. Optimize tab >> Pause visuals: make sure it’s Off.

  2. File >> Options >> Query reduction: turn off

    • Add an apply button to each slicer

    • Add a single Apply button to the filter pane.

After that, refresh once and visuals will update automatically again.

Thanks for responding.  I thought I had deleted my message.  I determined that I inadvertantly "Paused Visuals" under Optimization.  Once I deselected that my visuals refreshed like they should.

Hi @cheid_4838 ,

This issue is likely due to a recent change in Power BI Desktop behavior or a bug. When visuals show "Visual has pending changes" after a dataset refresh, it usually means the visuals are not auto-refreshing as expected.

Possible Solutions:

  1. Update Power BI Desktop to the latest version — this might be a temporary bug that has been fixed.
  2. Clear cache: Go to File > Options and settings > Options > Data Load and clear the cache.
  3. Check for preview features: Disable any preview features that might affect visual behavior.
  4. Rebuild visuals: In some cases, deleting and recreating the affected visuals resolves the issue.

If the problem persists, consider reporting it via the Power BI support forum or feedback portal.
