I am new to Power BI. I have been using a different BI for the past several years. What I am going to ask I do not believe was possible with the other BI, but maybe it is possible with Power BI.
I have a set of data with a column called "Customer". I want to create the same report for several different customers. The only way I know to do this currently is to create the report, filter on "Customer A", then duplicate the report and change the filter to "Customer B" and so on.
This is time consuming to set up and even more time consuming if I want to make changes because I have to make the change on each report individually. It also means I have to constantly look for new customers and then create new reports for them.
Is there any way to create a report template and then tell Power BI to look at the "Customer" column and create a report from the template for each unique value in that column?
I'm guessing there is not, but it would save a lot of time, so it's worth asking.
Hi @Anonymous,
Do you want a template generating same visualizations and report layout while different dataset for individual customer? If in your source dataset, there is a mapping relationship between customer id and corresponding data, you can try Query Parameter and Report Template to achieve such a requirement.

To expand on what I am trying to accomplish:
I have one dataset. I create a report, a scorecard, for all of our suppliers. I only want to show each supplier their own scorecard. Right now I would create a scorecard, filter by "Supplier A", then copy that scorecard and filter by "Supplier B" and so on for all suppliers. Then, if I wanted to make a change to the format of the report, I would have to go through this entire process again. This also means I have to manually check the data for new suppliers continuously. It would be great to have a template and then tell the program to use the template and create the same report for every supplier. This is probably a dream, but it would really be nice.
Thank you for the response. I'm going to try this when I have a chance.
Disregard my previous post @Shantanu00007. I had to republish the workbook after creating the role.
Hey, @Shantanu00007, the row level security seems to be a fantastic idea. I have created a role, but I am having difficulty figuring out how to assign users to that role. The instructions online seem to show you how to do it online after publishing the report, but when I follow that, I get a message saying RLS has moved to Power BI Desktop. However, I don't see where I can assign users to roles within Power BI Desktop.
Thank you for the response. I'm going to give this a try, although think I need to be a little further along in the process.
