I am using Power BI Desktop for Reporting Services.
The data source is a tabular model.
I have a table of Organistions, and the user would like to be able to group the organisation codes into a custom grouping. For example
| OrgCode | OrgGroup |
| AAA | Group Z1 |
| BBB | Group Z1 |
| CCC | Group Z1 |
| DDD | Group Z2 |
| EEE | Group Z2 |
| FFF | Other |
I would then like to use the OrgGroup to add as a level on a matrix, so that the user can see aggregates by OrgGroup and then break the figures down into the OrgCodes.
Is there a way to create custom groupings in the Power BI report to do this? Or do I need to add the OrgCode column to the tabular model?
Suggestions welcome.

Hi @Anonymous ,
Live Connection means you are connecting to SSAS directly, and bypassing the modeling available in Power BI.
It is the most restrictive method of using data in Power BI. It assumes your data is already modeled and all you need to do is create visuals.
The "workaround" is to add the grouping in the SSAS model.

@amitchandak Nope. When I right-click on the OrgCode field when it is placed onto a slicer visual, I only see these options:
And when I right-click the column of the table, the only options I get are these:
Hi @Anonymous ,
You can create groups for any field in the Fields. Please try again.

@Anonymous , that is not correct. When I go to Fields, and then right-click the text column in the table, these are the only options that are displayed. There is no option for "New Group"
Have you verified that the "New Group" option is available when the report Data Source is an Analysis Services tabular model, and the version of Power BI is Power BI Desktop for Reporting Services?
