Hi everyone,
I am experiencing difficulties in creating a particular template. My desire is the following: I would like to create in PBI a template that autmatically grab part of the data from an excel file that I upload in PBI and the remaining part from a shared dataset (this dataset is shared to my in PBI and created by another author).
Is that possible?
The goal is to have a comparison and a view on the columns that are shared between my excel and the shared dataset. So, when some values in my excel are missing, these are automatically populated by the dataset (which is the source of truth).
Thank you all.
Regards
Hi @matteo_96 ,
According to your description, do you mean you want to get data from Power BI dataset and Excel?
If this is the case, you should first connect to dataset and change the connection mode to Direct Query and then connect to Excel. Refere to Using DirectQuery for datasets and Analysis Services (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
Because by default, Power BI connect to dataset in Live Connection mode and Live Connection mode only accept one kind of data source. More details about three connection mode: DirectQuery, Live Connection or Import Data?

Hi @v-yanjiang-msft,
I understand. Let's put it this way:
I have an excel file with A,B,C columns. I would like that, when I upload the excel on PBI, the column C of the report is automatically populated with the data coming from a shared data source that is present on PBI.
So, for example: column A is Name, B is City, C is Sales. I can provide A and B with my report, but I want that PBI automatically populates the column C with Sales coming from a shared PBI data set which I have access to.
Is that possible?
Thank you in advance.
