Hi All,
I have an idea of what I want to make but not sure how to go about it. I have a sample showing a few of the key activities we must complete before opening a store. We have a forecasted date as well as 2 contingency dates which account for delays like the below.
| Store | Activities | Forecasted Date | Forecasted Contingency 1 | Forecasted Contingency 2 | Achieved |
| Central | Rental Lease Signed | 14/12/2025 | 29/12/2025 | 13/01/2026 | 14/12/2025 |
| Central | 50% Staff Found | 1/12/2025 | 16/12/2025 | 31/12/2025 | 1/12/2025 |
| Central | 100% Staff Found | 10/01/2026 | 25/01/2026 | 9/02/2026 | 24/01/2026 |
| Central | Fit Out Completed | 31/01/2026 | 15/02/2026 | 2/03/2026 | 2/02/2026 |
| Central | Onboarding | 16/02/2026 | 3/03/2026 | 18/03/2026 | |
| Central | Store Open | 28/02/2026 | 15/03/2026 | 30/03/2026 |
In Power BI, I want to show a chart that is similar to the below chart made in Excel. This would allow us to see how close the achieved dates of our activities have come to our forecasted/contingency dates. How would I go about this? I have tried a line graph in Power BI but it does not allow the dates in the Y-axis.
Thanks
Solved! Go to Solution.
As you rightly mentioned we cannot place a date column into Y axis of a line chart in power bi.
I would like to suggest a workaround, create a duplicate of date column in power query
And then change the data type of this duplicate column to decimal in power bi and then the result would look like this
Then you will be able to plot the line chart using this duplicated column in Y axis.
TO avoid confusion, may be hide y axis title and lables completely and replace the default tooltip with cusotm tooltip page.
If you want you can use measure driven dat labels and it looks like this
I am attaching the PBIX for your reference
