Count between two dates OR

I want to be able to get a count of records where StartDate is less than (slider value) and EndDate is greater than (slider value) OR EndDate is blank. I got as far as setting up the sliders, but how do I incorporate the OR statement for the EndDate?

Use COALESCE() to catch the scenario when the end date is blank.
