I have been asked a question in regards to Dynamics Nav. I have never used this as a data source before so i thought I would ask the question here to see what people thought.
Apparenly there are thousands of tables that they want to load into Power BI. However at a certain table the load fails. they are convinced its a table limit and Power BI cannot cope with Nav data
I was just thinking, personally I would never load thousands of tables into Power BI, that to me is going straight to the transactional data and I would normally load data into a central data warehouse and use this as my data source, But it would appear they may be stuck with the idea that this is the proper data to load in.
I havent got much more than that to be honest. All we were told is that they used an o data feed. I just wondererd if people had any ideas on this before going back. Power BI has a data connector to Dynamics Nav but should it if we have thousands of lables to load in? I find this very odd
This isnt me. This is what someone is asking me for so I dont have that information for you
In case you have not explored these links
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-nav-app/across-powerbi
https://powerbi.microsoft.com/fr-fr/blog/exploring-your-microsoft-dynamics-nav-data-with-power-bi/
I did look at all these and the utube vid but with it being from 2017 I thought it would be really out of date by now
Is it a case of having to do this with a Dynamics template with it all pre built for you
You cant connect to a decent data source of dynamics Nav and start from scratch?
even more confusing. the documentation start of by saying use a content pack (Do you HAVE to use a content pack instead of Get Data?)
But the documentation then says that content packs have been replaced with Application Templates
So I go here and Dynamics Nav isnt in the Application templates list So it doesnt look like you can do this anymore
Im even more confused now
Also, all this talk of thousands of tables. Does that seem right? Again Ive never touched this data source so I have no idea on this one
