Hi
I'm a little bit confused about the different ways to connect to PowerBI
Private endpoints for secure access to Power BI for on-premises clients - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
If I have clients onprem, i can use private endpoints as indicated in the docs, but do i need also the data gateway in the vnet?
do i need microsoft peering or private peering for expressroute?
I I have clients on prem that need to access powerbi that have data sources in cloud what are the options?
thanks

Hi @aresblade ,
Based on your description, I will provide a step-by-step answer to your question.
First, for the question of already using private endpoints and still needing a data gateway in vnet, what you need to understand is that a virtual network data gateway can be used with private endpoints for Azure data sources to ensure that no traffic is exposed to the public endpoints.

Second, you should use private peering. A private peer-to-peer connection sets up a bi-directional connection between the core network and the Azure Virtual Network (VNet). With this peering, you can connect directly to virtual machines and cloud services using dedicated IP addresses.
Azure ExpressRoute: circuits and peering | Microsoft Learn
Finally, if your customers need to access Power BI with data sources in the cloud, in addition to the private endpoints, virtual network (VNet) integrations mentioned above you can also use ExpressRoute, utilizing ExpressRoute with private peering or an Azure VPN gateway.

Hi thank you,
the difficult for me to understand is the following:
The client has power bi and dynamics 365, they want to connect to onprem via expressroute private peering, so I need a data gateway on prem, correct? can i use the same data gateway for both? the in azure do i need something at network level? I'm trying to find some kind of info about this services from an architectural point of view.
thank you
