Hi,
We have a remote SSAS that is reachable by our "on-premises gateway" and Power BI Service. The power bi users are mapped to a user on the cube.
We want to use Power BI Desktop to also connect to that SSAS, which is reachable through the gateway, but not directly through PBI Desktop.
After trying to import into Power BI Desktop a PBI Service gateway data source. We of course cannot connect to it, because the connection is not going through the gateway.
Is there any way to connect to a data source through the gateway with PBI Desktop?
I do not have this issue. Make sure you could directly connect by selecting Get Data > Database > SQL Server Analysis Services Database.
Yes the live connection in Power Bi Service (Get Data > Database > SQL Server Analysis Services Database) works perfectly. But it's going through our gateway which is on the server where the SSAS is.
With power BI desktop, the connection is not going through the gateway, and since the server is in another country, we can't connect to it directly. Is there any way to reuse this gateway to connect to it from Power BI Desktop? We want to avoid the http data pump (msdmpump.dll) to access our SSAS, which does not work anyways.
You just need to Configure the Windows Firewall to Allow Analysis Services Access.
There should be no need to configure firewall settings if going from
Power BI Desktop -> Get data from Power BI Service -> On-premises data gateway -> SSAS
The above does not work.
At the moment the following works:
Power BI Service> On-premises data gateway -> SSAS
Hi,
Do you know if it's possible to connect to a SQL server instead of to SSAS via the gateway?
Cheers,
Anton
