Connect another Organization SQL Server database using Power BI Desktop

Hello, 

I want to connect my supplier SQL Sever database which is hosted in outside of my organization, using Power BI desktop to prepare the reports and dashboards. 

Please help to tell me whether any network ports to be opened to connect the SQL sever database outside of my organization tenant.

Hi @tamilarasan11 ,

As @amitchandak replied, to connect to an external SQL Server database, the default port used by SQL Server is TCP port 1433 for the default instance. If your supplier's SQL Server is using a named instance or a different port, you will need to know the specific port number. Ensure that this port is open in both your supplier's firewall and your organization's firewall to allow for the necessary communication.

Thanks for your information. I'll check and see if the TCP Port number 1433 is open in both supplier and my organization. Also, please confirm whether the Power BI On-premises data gateway application to be installed in user's machine or not.

@tamilarasan11 , Usually port 1433 is used for the SQL server and that should allow requests. In this, as the database is not in your organization, the database should allow connection to 1433 from outside. Ips can limit it

Thanks for your reply. Is there anything to be checked at the IP configuration level, like the IP should be added or whitelisted?
