Column color selection won't adhere to selection and keeps flipping to default (blue)

Pretty straightforward here:

Line and clustered column chart, column color won't adhere to selection (flips back in settings and never changes in visual).  PBI build is 2.139.2054.0 64-bit (January 2025).  This used to work and now it doesn't.  Border option flips back to 'no border'.  App stuck in 'dark mode'.  Changed chart types and it still doesn't work.  Removed/reapplied the measure and it still doesn't work.  No conditional formatting.

Uninstalled/reinstalled the app.  No benefit.  Seems like a super glitchy build.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi @GiveMeArrays ,

I don't quite understand what you mean, so I created the data and put it in the Line and clustered column chart.

What is certain is that I can change the color and choose the color corresponding to the border.

Please elaborate on the meaning of your passage for more in-depth study.

Hi Yilong Zhou,

Punch line:  I published the desktop report to office.com and the column updates on the web version without a problem, but it still won't work in the desktop version.

About the report:  It's a long-running (same report being used for multiple years) multiyear report of measures by month and only the current YTD is the column(s) and all prior years and months are the lines.

Whatever the root-cause of the problem is, the web version of PBI translates the report correctly so that the column color can be updated on the web, but I still need to update the desktop report somehow.  I'll keep looking around for a way to accomplish this.

Thanks!

So I'm back to trying to diagnose the problem in PBI desktop that is not present in PBI web.

I've been taking screenshots and I think the issue revealed itself.  The desktop version has the "Apply Settings to Categories" in the "Columns" format section (by default; I didn't intervene).  In the web version, the same "Columns" format section has it showing as "Apply Settings to Series" (by default; I didn't intervene).  So however the web engine is translating the model and/or data (same exact report, no intervention from me), it's doing so correctly.

Have you seen this happen before?
