Hi Gurus,
I have run into a problem after I changed my data source from SQL server to a local excel file.
I used the Advanced Editor and it worked fine.
But when I click "Close and Apply" it gives me errors that all my column names are in use on the table thus unable to apply the changes. I changed one column name in the Query Editor but it continues to give me errors for other columns.
The old and new tables are exactly the same content. I also tried to change the name of the table in the Query Editor but the same errors happen.
I spelt Business (BUSSINESS!!) when I correct this, I get all the errors!! Any ideas? Thanks
Hi @deeramm33 ,
Are you changing the column name in data source? what is the error looks like?
Best regards,
Morning, Yes Im changing the data source!
error !column 'bussiness unit' of the table was not found
Hi @deeramm33 ,
It seems like your query use the column name , please try to verify and change them in the Advanced Editor, Please refer to this document about Advanced Editor: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-query-overview#advanced-editor
We suggest you to keep a copy if you want to change it.
Best regards,
It happens when you have a calculated column with the same name,
or on your advance editor, you are trying to put this as column editor.
Yes Advance Editor will not show you error because it checks the syntax.
Try looking at your advance editor again and check each step you make especially when adding custom or conditional columns.
If you want, You can screenshot your advance editor here and cover the confidential data to help you find the error.
If the error cannot be found on adnvance editor, it can be on your dax column name
Thanks, I took a screenshot of the advanced editor.
Hi @Anonymous ,
Based on my test, if there are same column name in excel, the promote header function will rename them automatically. So I think the problem will be the calculate table or column as @mussaenda mentioned.
Can you try to connect to this excel file in a empty pbix file to see if it still has error?

Have you tried to remove the promoted headers to see if the error will still show?
No, stupid question. Sorry. Of course it will not show because there will be "Column 1" etc. Sorry.
For what I understand, we need to find the two columns with the same name
