Any advice for cleaning Excel data that doesn't translate well for Power BI?
(Lots of colored cells, Subheaders that are hard to edit, etc)

Most of the cleaning manipulations are possible with the power query itself, take a look at the linked guide:

Other ETL tools that you can use: excel, pandas, data factory etc...
