Cleaning Data and Removing duplicates

Greetings

I am a power bi newbi and was wondering if anyone could help me with cleaning data and removing duplicates in an excel sheet. I am loading different tables into different pages in the Power Bi application from an Excel worksheet. Any guidance, help or a general point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Welcome to the Power BI community! It's great to see you taking the initiative to learn and improve your skills. Cleaning data and removing duplicates is an essential step to ensure accuracy in your reports. I'll guide you through a simple process to achieve this in Power BI using an Excel worksheet as your data source.

Step-by-Step For Cleaning The Data And Removing Duplicates:

Cleaning the Data:

  • Once your data is loaded, go to the "Data" view by clicking on the table icon at the left side.
  • Here, you can see all your columns and rows. To clean or transform data, you can use the "Transform Data" option in the ribbon. This will open the Power Query Editor.
  • Within Power Query, you can make various transformations, such as replacing values, splitting columns, or renaming columns.

Removing Duplicates:

  • In the Power Query Editor, select the column(s) where you want to remove duplicates.
  • Click on the "Remove Duplicates" button in the ribbon. If you're looking to remove rows where multiple columns have the same values, ensure you select all those columns before using the "Remove Duplicates" feature.
  • Once done, click on "Close & Apply" in the upper-left corner to apply the changes and close the Power Query Editor.

    I hope this helps!
