Clarification on Implementing RLS in Power BI via SSMS

Hi All,
 
I've been going through the Power BI documentation, particularly the section about enforcing model security and restricting access to Power BI model data. Here's the link for reference: Microsoft Documentation on Power BI Model Security. The documentation states: "You can also create and manage roles by using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), or by using a third-party tool, like Tabular Editor."
 
This statement got me wondering: does it imply that Row-Level Security (RLS) can be implemented directly on Power BI reports through SSMS? This interpretation seems logical based on the text, but I'm aware that RLS is typically implemented in SQL databases. Considering the documentation is specifically about Power BI, I find this a bit confusing.
 
Has anyone here had experience with implementing RLS in Power BI using SSMS, or can shed some light on this? Any insights or clarifications would be greatly appreciated!

    Imagine security like water flowing downhill.

     

    You can apply security uphill (SSMS SQL) or downhill (Power BI) or both.

    If you apply "hot water" security uphill then you can't override it downhill.

     

    If you want to learn about SSMS SQL row level sceurity then please ask a SQL forum. (This is a Power Bi forum).

     

    Tabulare edirtor is only required for "Object level security" to hide columns and tables.

     

    Whereas RLS (Row Level Security) can be applied in Power BI. Learn how here
