Implementing Fabric Apps by Rayfin SDK

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.Rayfin is intended to be the foundation for building data-driven applications directly on Microsoft Fabric, rather than just dashboards or reports. Fabric Apps combines data models, generated APIs, authentication, and hosting into a single development workflow, allowing developers to define their application backend in code and deploy it directly to Fabric.
For organizations looking to build resellable Fabric solutions, Rayfin appears to address a gap that traditionally existed between analytics and application development. Instead of delivering only semantic models, reports, and dashboards, solution providers could potentially package complete applications with:
- A managed backend
- Authentication and authorization
- APIs
- Operational and analytical data
- Power BI/Fabric reporting experiences
all running within the Fabric ecosystem.
The long-term goal seems to be enabling developers (and AI coding agents) to move from a data model to a production-ready application more quickly, while inheriting Fabric's governance, security, and scalability. In that sense, Rayfin could become a key enabler for creating reusable and distributable Fabric-based business applications rather than delivering data assets alone.
Regarding availability, Fabric Apps and the Rayfin-based development experience are currently in preview, so capabilities and timelines may evolve before general availability. The latest Microsoft documentation and announcements have not yet published a firm GA date.

Good question -- and I agree this is an important topic. Here is what I can share based on the latest public information as of June 2026.
What is Rayfin:
Rayfin was officially announced at Microsoft Build 2026 (June 2). It is an open-source SDK and CLI (MIT license) that lets developers and AI coding agents define an app backend in TypeScript and deploy it to Fabric in one command -- including a SQL database, Entra ID auth, GraphQL API, access policies, and static hosting. Data lands in OneLake automatically with no ETL. Apps run as first-class Fabric artifacts and inherit the platform's governance, security, and compliance.
The real goal:
AI agents can scaffold a frontend in minutes, but getting a production backend with auth, data, and governance still takes weeks. Rayfin closes that gap by making Fabric a managed backend-as-a-service. The strategy is to ensure that apps built fast (by people or agents) land inside the governed enterprise data platform from day one, not outside it.
Resellable / packaged Fabric solutions -- is it realistic?
Directionally, yes. But with caveats. Rayfin itself is currently focused on rapid app backend creation within a tenant, not explicitly on ISV marketplace packaging. However, the broader ecosystem is assembling the pieces: the Workload Development Kit for custom workloads, the unified commercial marketplace (with a dedicated AI Apps and Agents category since late 2025), and ISV programs like Build and Publish FY26. A fully documented end-to-end story for "build a Rayfin app, package it, sell it cross-tenant via marketplace" is not publicly confirmed yet. It may come, but today it is inference, not fact.
GA timing:
Rayfin is in public preview (must be enabled by a Fabric admin). No publicly confirmed GA date exists. Treat it as active preview with no firm commitment yet.Key links beyond the docs:
