Can't get a First ,Count or distinctcount of a text column unless I create a measure?

Hi,

Previously I would be able to put a text field in a table visual and ask for a distinct count or a simple count of values.

It seeems for some reason the developpers decided that we do not need this?

Because now the only way I can get this is by creating a measure, which is not necessarily efficient when you are exploring the data.

Did you, by chance, or anyone who worked on that model create a calculation group? Creating one automatically discourages implicit measures. Deleting a calculation group doesn't re-enable implicit measures. You'll have to use Tabular Editor for that.

There has been no change in what is called implicit measures (the automatic aggregations created when you drag fields into visuals). Everything that is placed in the Values area of a table or other visuals still supports the same functionality as always, including First, Last, Count, and DistinctCount.

If you do not see these options, it usually means one of two things:

You are dragging the field into an area that expects categories (e.g., Axis, Rows, Columns) instead of Values.

There is another issue in your specific model.
