Can't create visualization

I can't seem to create a graph of any kind. There data in the data tab, but in the report tab I can't generate a graph. The dots keeps on spinning. When I look at the trace, there is an error for PBI.Visual.Error Missing References Line Chart Something's wrong with one or more fields.

Has anyone encountered this issue and/or know of a solution?

Hi Zero_Odds,

Could you please share us more details regarding the error message you encountered, better a screenshot?

Also please share about the Power BI desktop version, the most current version is Version: 2.38.4491.642 64-bit (August 2016), which could be downloaded from here. Please take a try to download it and perform a re-install.

In addition, if re-install won’t help here, enable tracing under Power BI desktop:

File -> Options & Settings -> Options->Global->Diagnostics, check the tracing

And upload the trace log into OneDrive, post the shared link here.

We will help to check.

Regards

Do you know if ActiveX is required to display the graphs? I have some policies restricting ActiveX.

Do you know what IE policy settings could block the graphs from being displayed?

Thanks!

@Zero_Odds Following are minimum requirements for pbi desktop. Make sure you have those specially IE9 as I guess it will be related to the visuals error you're getting.

  • Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2, or later
  • .NET 4.5
  • Internet Explorer 9 or later
  • Memory (RAM): At least 1 GB available, 1.5 GB or more recommended.
  • Display: At least 1440x900 or 1600x900 (16:9) recommended. Lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 1280x800 are not recommended, as certain controls (such as closing the startup screen) display beyond those resolutions.
  • CPU: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster x86- or x64-bit processor recommended.

Yes I have Windows 7

Yes I have .NET 4.5.2

Yes I have IE 11

Once FIPS was disabled it worked fine.
