Hello,
I saw others having similar issues in the forums but did not see a resolution that works for me. I am unable to connect to a Power BI service semantic model from Power BI Desktop when creating a new report. I receive this error:
When using Power BI service, I am able to connect to the model and build a new report from there. From Power BI Desktop, I am able to update all of the datasets, and all of my certificates are working. This issue persists no matter what model I am connecting to in the service, whether it's in my workspace or a department workspace. I also tested it on a model whose data was exclusively from Excel, and I received the same error.
I'm not sure where to turn to now. Other users have connected to the model and built reports off of it so we made sure that my permissions are the exact same as theirs and that did not help. I am also have gateway creator permissions so it's not that.
Like I said, the fact that I cannot even connect to a fully excel based model leaves me wondering if this is an IT/Firewall issue? Our IT is not familiar with Power BI and I am not familiar with those kind of issues so I'm not even sure where to start.
Thank you in advance.
Hi, @Anonymous
Start by checking that you are using the latest version of Power BI Desktop.Sometimes updates include fixes that address connection issues. You can check the following link:

Verify that your network allows traffic on the necessary ports.Power BI Desktop uses multiple processes that communicate through Windows named pipes, which may be blocked by security software.
You can also clear cached data and credentials in Power BI Desktop can resolve connectivity issues. Double-check that your permission settings are correct, even though you mentioned that they are the same as other users. Sometimes reapplying permissions can also help. You can see this link:

Hi @Anonymous
I would recommend you to follow the below steps, if you haven't done.
Thanks
I would start by checking your permissions to that semantic model and the workspace where it is hosted. If you still have them and the issue persists try 2 things:
1) Request your permissions to be removed and provided again. If this still doesn't help:
2) You might as well submit a ticket/case with the Microsoft Support team to review your situation.
