Here's my matrix in PBI service:
What I want is the year to repeat on each row, then export through the service. When I do that now I get the year as a merged cell for all associated rows and it add subtotals for some reason.

I did find this easy way to repeat the row values once you are in Excel (i.e. unmerge but keep the value):

You need to change the layout of your matrix.

Check out my blog: Power BI em PortuguêsThanks - that was half the issue. Turning on "repeat row headers" makes it look correct in the service, but on export it still merges the first column values (year). Not quite "the same layout you see now" as indicated by the export menu.

Note: this is with column and row subtotals turned off. Others have noted this issue.
