Calendar table vs data column in data set
Hello, I already have data column in my data set. Do I need to create calendar table for my further calculations, like MoM, YoY...What is a better solution?
Yes, it is always advisable to create a date dimension table and join it via a relationship to the fact table on some date field. Why? You need CONTIGUOUS DATES to do correct date intelligence with DAX.
The good news: You can create a date table with a simple DAX statement:
MyDates = CALENDAR("1/1/2025", "12/31/2025")
Then you will need to flesh out the other columns like month number, name, etc.
