.CSV Data Source Auto Refresh

Hi guys,

I'm new using PowerBI so I apologize if this is an obvious question. I have taken a look at the powerBI documentation but the data refresh seems confusing.

What I am trying to achieve is a report on powerBI that is viewed through the PowerBI web app. The report was populated from a .CSV file on a fileserver and published through powerBI desktop. We have a process where every day the .csv files will be updated with the latest data.

From what I understand I will need to install the PowerBI data gateway on the fileserver which will allow the .csv files to automatically update the dataset on the PowerBI report, without having to open up PowerBI on the fileserver and manually refresh the data.

Any advice is greatly appreciated 🙂

It will depend on you. If you have a stable server to save the csv files and there are a lot of people that will interact with the data then I might be the best solution. If you don't want to use a server to install a gateway then you can go to onedrive where power bi will connect directly.

Yes you need a gateway. My suggestions are here on my blog

You can find how to configure for the first time a gateway.

Thanks, just gone through your blog now and is currently on "refresh in progress..." after I scheduled a time to refresh 🙂

Would you recommend this over setting up OneDrive on the fileserver and syncing the folder that will be used as the data source?
