Can we have more function on buttons?
- Custom Python/R scripts run when clicked.
- Mulitple actions on click.
- Integrate Power automate flow as a button action to be used in conjunction with multiple actions on click.
The Power Automate visual in Power BI will do multiple actions on a click if you put multiple actions as steps in the flow.
Scripts I think you could potentially do with the Power Automate button as well, where you pass your data from the PBI report to Power Automate, and then have that run a Power Automate Desktop flow while also passing it the data... PA cloud can run PA desktop flows if you have a gateway and VM set up for it, and Power Automate Desktop has actions to run all sorts of scripts. It's a lot of hoop-jumping to set up though and can get expensive.
Yeah, That's right.
Dual or mnulti functionality doesnt support backwards writing on the P/A visual though, so you're limited to P/A multi functionality, and can't do things like change page, or go to a bookmark ETC...
Example use Case
Clicks a button to navigate to a "Hidden report page"
This also triggers a P/A script to write to a data log excel file
and the P/A script also Emails an I.T Admin
It'd be great if P/A visual was integrated into the standard button visual and dual functionality was supported.
- Also if you could backwards write python scripts to perform tasks like changing the language of the report/colors etc etc
Yeah, that would be kind of cool. My guess is it's a security risk, being able to insert scripts in things in M365 is pretty locked down - e.g. you can't do it in SharePoint pages anymore either. I do wish there were more specifics logged in the audit log though, I don't think it goes down to the page level in the API.
