Bug in the new May Update ?- Copy and Paste of Visuals

I am working with PowerBi on different clients. For the second time today i am not able to copy any visual (even a blank one in a blank report) and paste it on the same or another page. Is there an issue at the moment, which is already known (not by me yet). If anyone has faced the same problems and maybe has solved it, it would be very nice to hear how to do. Best wishes, Guido

 Hello again,

i really don't know if that is the solution of my problem. And of course I don't know if this is is stable workaround for the near future.

I am working in an environment, where I am using the MS Remote Service to connect to my RemoteClient hosted by Microsoft and the Citrix Workspace to connect to some clients of one of my customer. Recently there has been an update in the Citrix Workspace App with some changes in the GUI and most probably some invisible ones in the below the surface as well.

Not beeing able to fix my problem with PBI reinstallment lots of times i guessed, that the problem might related to the problems with clipboard synchronization of the machines on my local client. Funnily, that works very well - except the PBI Visuals. I now have killed every task related to Citrix Workspace on my local machine after a reboot and

- heureka -

the visuals can be copied and pasted again on both of my machines using the May version of PBI. I dont know who is going to solve this strange problem now - Citrix or MS - who is the problem owner? But if my idea is correct and I am quite right with my assumption of this clipboard behaviour, I will be able to handle the problem using the task manager more often in the future.

Best wishes,

Guido

Hi @Guido_Osterwald ,

Yeah, you're not the only one seeing this. Since the May update, a few folks have reported issues with copy-paste not working properly — even on blank visuals or fresh reports. Seems like something might’ve broken in the latest build.

Here’s a couple of things you can try:

  • Restart Power BI and try again. Sometimes it works after a fresh launch.
  • If you're using the desktop version, check if there's a preview feature enabled that might be interfering. Try disabling any new experimental features.
  • Also, make sure your clipboard isn’t being blocked by another app (like remote desktop tools or clipboard managers).

If none of that helps, rolling back to the previous version might be the safest workaround for now until a fix is released.

Hope that helps a bit.

If my response resolved your query, kindly mark it as the Accepted Solution to assist others. Additionally, I would be grateful for a 'Kudos' if you found my response helpful.

Hello and thank you very much for your answer,

what i have found out so far.

(1) The behaviour is the same on my virtual machine (MS Cloud PC) and i first got this issue abut 10 days ago. So on two devices I have this issue.

(2) A downgrade to the March Version (there is no April version available) didn't show  any effects - when the behaviour of not beeing able to copy & paste already occurs.

(3) Only a reboot of my computer with a fresh start and a reinstallment of PBI helped.

Best wishes,

Guido

Hi @Guido_Osterwald ,

Thank you very much for your detailed follow-up and for sharing the steps you’ve tried.

It’s helpful to know that you’ve experienced this issue on multiple devices and that downgrading to the March version didn’t resolve the problem once it started. It seems to confirm that the issue is persistent across different environments and is not tied to specific update.

Your workaround—fully rebooting the computer and reinstalling Power BI—will likely be useful for others facing the same problem. hope Microsoft addresses this in an upcoming update for more permanent fix.

If come across any new information or alternative solutions, I’ll be sure to share them here. In the meantime, thank you again for your openness and for helping the community by documenting your findings.

Unfortunately that workaround doesnt work for me anymore. I am now facing the same issues again. Nor a reinstallment and a reboot or even a downgrade to a previous version helps. Is it possible, that there is an interference with the clipboard management? Interestingly i was asked to "allow or deny" power to access the clipboard. This messages popped up the first time for any application i have ever run on my device ...
