Biq Query connect with Power BI

Hi Team,

I would like to know the challenges, if we have Big query connect with power Bi as Direct mode connectivity. Does this cost Big Query a huge? Means we do have lots of users(1 cr users) , if they hit a report / any query it will always go to big query and check for it and return the result right? So, is it a good way to have direct mode connectivity? Does, Big query does not hold cache memory, so that it wont be chargeable and always return data from cache memory?

Please suggest!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Import: The selected tables and columns are imported into Power BI Desktop. As you create or interact with a visualization, Power BI Desktop uses the imported data. To see underlying data changes since the initial import or the most recent refresh, you must refresh the data, which imports the full dataset again.

DirectQuery: No data is imported or copied into Power BI Desktop. For relational sources, the selected tables and columns appear in the Fields list. For multi-dimensional sources like SAP Business Warehouse, the dimensions and measures of the selected cube appear in the Fields list. As you create or interact with a visualization, Power BI Desktop queries the underlying data source, so you’re always viewing current data.

When you interact in the visuals or refresh the dataset, Power BI will send querys to data source. It will take time for data source to calculate based on query and return result to Power BI.

So the required visual refresh time depends on how long that back-end source takes to respond with the results from the query (or queries) and the complexity of the query.

@Anonymous . If the data size is not so huge, then you can import mode. Direct query size will depend on what queries are needed. So you have calculated based on the assumption. You can enable dual mode for the better cache. table property under model view
