Bad performance on a specific dimension only

I have a star-schema model, it works fine, until I put a field from one specific dimension.

Then it thinks for 10 or more minutes before showing a matrix.

Nothing special about this dimension, no measures treat it differently, it is not large.

Any ideas?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

I think I've found a reason:

My model is in SSAS, PowerBI is just a viewer with Live Connection.

So in SSAS I had a relationship based on different data types - text and decimal.

It's not very clear what you are saying, please provide more information  about the field from the dimension.

Matrix's can be performance heavy but it depends on what you are putting in it.  How many rows,  what is the relationshi based on for this dimension.   Is it a text field, is it a calculated field.  Please provide the full details.

The best way to understand what is happening is to run performance analyzer and then  run that query in dax studio.

If I took the time to answer your question and I came up with a solution, please mark my post as a solution and /or give kudos freely for the effort 🙂 Thank you!
