Azure Maps Reference Layer show GeoJson file url source.

Hello

I see on the new july 2024 power bi update that we can upload a geojson file to the reference layer and use a URL to make it dynamic.

I didn't know about this feature and successfully uploaded a local GeoJson file and it displayed the shape correctly and plotted my data correctly.

I would really like to use the url feature and make the reference layer dynamic.  I would create all my geoJson shape files as needed and host the file on sharepoint,  how do I reference this file ?

I have the sharepoint address from the details part, this is the correct referrence for power bi to use.
I have tried manaully typing the url and using a measure.
However my desktop version of power bi doesn't display the shape.

Thanks in advance

@jasemilly I'm trying to achieve the same thing and not getting anything to work.  I'm wondering if this was designed with assuming users were pulling in files from places like github that have the data in raw format similar to the link below:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Azure-Samples/AzureMapsCodeSamples/main/Static/data/geojson/US_Cou...

It seems like in SharePoint that the default is to download the file rather than display the raw format which doesn't work with PowerBI.  Would be nice to have the SharePoint piece work, because you know...it's a Microsoft product 😉

I was pretty estatic about this feature, but now I'm just MEH

@boley2131

I agree with what you are saying, I got it going with Github yeterday and created an awful lot of geojson files.  Having to host them on Github created alot of extra work that I think is unnecessary, since you are staying within the MS world.

Perhaps the video could have done a walk through rather than just saying can be done.

I am still very pleased to have this feature, it's something I have been trying to do for a couple of years.  I have a sql source for each shape and have had to combine them into a single file for each supplier and then use power automate to create the actual file.  It has been interesting and pleasing to see work.

Did you have to put it out in a public github space or how did you get it to work?

I put it on a public github space

Hi,@jasemilly

Regarding the issue you raised, my solution is as follows:

1.First you can try the following steps, here is a screenshot of the relevant documentation:

Thank you for the reply, I can see the shape when using the file locally and browsing to it.

However when I try and use the the URL to the file on sharepoint I get this error.

This is the format of my URL.

https://xxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/xxxx/Shared%20Documents/Jason/test/TestGeo.geojson

In both instances it's the same file.

Thanks

Hi! Have you found a solution to use external links with .geojson files? I also tried to store the file in sharepoint but it doesn't work. Maybe with GitHub could work but I can't use it to store data as public source.
