I just want to say Thank you for the new Azure Maps, maps and options are way better, we were able to add lanes and identify consistent lanes and direction for each of our customers but for some reason i am unable to use the Lasso tool, i would like to give our user the ability to select with a lasso tool, according to copilot you can just do ctrl and select but is not working for me, unless i am missing something. can anybody help?
Hi @Julio7,
Thank you for your positive feedback on the new Azure Maps visual in Power BI. We’re pleased to know it is supporting you in delivering more detailed and directional insights to your customers.
In response to your question about the Lasso selection tool, we appreciate your interest in the visual's interactive features.
Currently, the Lasso (free-form selection) tool is not available in Azure Maps visual for Power BI.
The Ctrl + Click option enables multi-point selection (selecting multiple individual points), but free-form or lasso selection, as seen in the standard map visual or scatter chart has not yet been introduced in Azure Maps.
Workarounds you can have a look:
You can utilize Ctrl + Click to select multiple specific points on the Azure Maps visual, where this feature is supported. If precise spatial selection is not possible, it is advisable to offer alternative filtering methods, such as slicers based on location, direction, or route metadata. For scenarios requiring filtering by geographic patterns or clusters, enabling features like clustering, bubble layers, or custom map layers can effectively group data and enhance user interaction, reducing the need for freeform selection tools.
For the feature we encourage you to submit this feature request or upvote it via the Power BI Ideas Forum, as user feedback helps prioritize future improvements.

Hi @Julio7
The Lasso selection tool is not currently supported in the Azure Maps visual in Power BI, even though Copilot or some documentation may suggest otherwise. At this time, you can only use Ctrl+Click to select multiple individual points on Azure Maps, but freeform or lasso selection is not available. This has been a common request among users, and Microsoft may add this functionality in the future, but for now, it is not built into the Azure Maps visual.
Workaround:
If you need lasso selection, consider using the ArcGIS Maps visual in Power BI, which does support lasso and rectangle selection tools. Alternatively, you can submit a feature request to Microsoft through the Power BI Ideas forum, and monitor updates on the Azure Maps documentation page for future enhancements.
Thanks, there is a submittion already for Power Bi to add the Lasso feature to Power BI. i have voted as well. i'll just wait till they add that feature to Power BI Azure maps. thanks team.
