I have a question about data storage and refreshing my pbix files. I currently have 4 different desktop files and they all have a few tables in common that are stored on a sql server. Each Bi file is connected to the server and must be refreshed individually.
I would like to have just one Bi file with all the tables in it and let my other Bi files reference that one. This way I can refresh just one from from the sql server and the rest from the pbix file? I would also like to have an auto refresh feature so the central file updates at night or during off hours. Is there a way to do that?
HI @Anonymous,
I'd like to suggest you publish these reports to the power bi service side, then you can configure scheduled refresh on these reports. (notice: the same data tables only need to define once on gateway configuration)

Hey @Anonymous ,
do you work with the Power BI Services (https://app.powerbi.com)?
There you can set the refresh of every file up to 8 times a day. You can also just have one file/data model and then base new reports on that data model.
I am working in Power Bi desktop and downloading from a SQL server we have. The connection seems very slow and refreshing takes a long time.
Hi @Anonymous,
Can you please share more detail to help us clarify your scenario?
For example:
1. What type of connection mode are you worked on?
2. Have you tried to use command tools to ping the network status between your device and database connections?
3. Any advanced track or block policy enabled on your network route? (they may affect the status of the connections)
