I have a Power BI report that I use to test various API calls. Normally, I would connect by using the Web source, then selecting Basic Authentication to access the data in the API call.
But recently I cannot do that. When I open the Web source, there are only two options, and when I input the API, neither of which allows me to authenticate. This naturally leads to an error saying that I don't have access to the resource.
Am I doing something wrong or has something changed?

Issue was on our side - API had Roles for DEV assigned but not for PROD version. Resolved!
Afraid not, it's an internal company URL, which works well on reports we have already built.
Hi @SevsBo
When I try to connect to a public web Url it works.
Web URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_and_territories_of_the_United_States
I went with Anonymous authentication type.
It shows me tables I can connect to:
The only reason I can think of the error you are getting is may be either due to the credentials you used to authenticate have expired or your permissions have changed.
Can you clearing your permissions in Power BI Desktop once and then try again?
Go to --> Files --> Options & Settings --> Datasource Settings --> Select your WEB URL --> Clear Permissions --> Close
Now try reconnecting to the WEB source again.
Issue is I never get to the part where it asks for credentials. It's a whole new API, with new credentials, compared to the others, but it never brings up the window to ask for them.
EDIT: I have tried the wikipedia link you provided, that gave me the authentication method. It it possible there's a different issue at play here?
HI @SevsBo
Have you tried clearing the data source permissions and trying again like in my response above?
Did something change on the API side of your organisation?
I cannot clear the data source as the new API URL was not permitted in the first place. I only get an error saying I cannot access the resource, so cannot add it as a data source. I am investigating with our data team, will report back if I find any solutions.
