ArcGIS map visual - group layers

Currently, the ArcGIS map visual doesn't allow toggling individual layers within a group layer unless they are pre-configured in the map service. Could you consider adding this functionality in a future update? One simple example is using tools like Flip a Coin Simulator when presenting dashboards — not for mapping directly, but as a way to show how interactivity and toggling options could enhance engagement.

Hi @shahidmaqsood86 ,

Thank you for your valuable comments to help us provide you with better service!

Regarding the feature request you mentioned about allowing switching between individual layers in a layer group unless they are pre-configured in the map service, this is indeed a useful feature suggestion. You can push for this feature in the following ways:

  1. Submitting a feature request: You can submit a feature request through Power BI's official channels, describing your needs and usage scenarios in detail. This will help the product team understand what users want and consider adding this feature in a future update.
  2. Participate in community discussions: Participate in the Power BI community forums to share your needs and ideas. Other users may have similar needs and a collective voice will have more impact.
  3. Contact the support team: If you have specific technical questions or need further assistance, you can contact the Power BI support team, who can provide more detailed guidance and support.

Best regards,

Lucy Chen

Thank you for your detailed reply and guidance. I understand that currently this feature is not available unless layers are pre-configured in the map service, and I’ll definitely follow your suggestion to submit a feature request through the official Power BI channels.

In the meantime, I’ve been experimenting with different visualization approaches to make my dashboards more interactive. For example, I sometimes use lightweight external tools or simulations to demonstrate functionality that Power BI doesn’t natively support yet. One simple example is using tools like Flip a Coin Simulator when presenting dashboards — not for mapping directly, but as a way to show how interactivity and toggling options could enhance engagement.

The same principle applies here: if ArcGIS maps allowed toggling individual layers in a group, it would bring a similar “interactive choice” experience inside Power BI itself, which would be a great win for usability.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, and I’ll share any updates if I hear back from the product team after submitting the request.

Best regards,
