Hi all,
When I open Power BI Desktop, before I can do anything, it presents me with the error "an error occured while rendering the report". In the error dump I see the error: "JS Error Message: Uncaught error: missing control paste". Funny thing is that the main Power BI window that opens doesn't have a title bar, so I can't move/resize it either.
Running on Windows Server 2016 via RDP. Not sure if that matters.
Tried running as an admin, no difference. Clearing the cache in %appdata%/local/Microsoft/Power BI Desktop/CEF/cache doesn't do anything either. Removed everything, reinstalled, no difference.
Last time I had this, I had to revert back to an old version, but there must be a solution to fix this, I hope?
This is the dump I get:

OK, I found the solution.
As said, I'm running on a server via RDS. Although I have full admin rights on that server, I had to run the Power BI Desktop installer with the "Run as Administrator" option (also used mstsc /admin to connect to the server, but don't think that was the key).
So, this is quite nasty, since the installer ran perfectly and didn't present any errors. But when starting Power BI Desktop there's a strange error ("Control Paste missing") that cripples the interfaces (no title bar, so you can't maximize/minimize/move/close the window from there, no menu on the left to switch between model/data/report, no visible tab names on the bottom).
But hey, we got there. Perhaps useful for others to know as well.
Cheers!
Michel
@Furanity old way of solving, did you tested the same report on another machine? I'm wondering if the issue is specific to that machine.
I would ❤ Kudos if my solution helped. 👉 If you can spend time posting the question, you can also make efforts to give Kudos whoever helped to solve your problem. It is a token of appreciation!

I did not even open a report yet 🙂 I'm just opening Power BI Desktop straight from the shortcut...
@Furanity that's even worst, I guess you already took the necessary step to reinstall the software. It is surely an isolated machine specific issue. I guess you need to open a support ticket and see if you can get a solution or maybe someone else here can help. I'm not aware of or came across such an issue.
