I'm using a local file in excel to connect to the dataset, however, after building the dashboard, I needed to add a couple of new columns but when trying to refresh the powerbi file, I get the error message "can't convert to number". Any thoughts on best apporaches to be able to preview the new added columns without rebuilding the dashboard?
If you inserted columns in between previous columns, you are probably getting an error where you did a Change Type on a column but now that column does not contain numbers. You will need to use the Advanced Editor to modify your M code.
