You’re definitely not the only one feeling this change. Microsoft recently redesigned the image experience in Power BI Desktop, and the new workflow moved image selection into the Format pane instead of directly from the Insert menu. It does add extra clicks, and many users have mentioned that it feels slower and less intuitive than the previous method.

 

Right now, Microsoft hasn’t provided an option to switch back to the old behavior. The change is part of the new “visual container” model, where every visual is created first and then configured in the Format pane. That’s why the image selection now sits under Format > Style > Image.
