Add-In Capabilities

Some of the add-ins on the marketplace have the capabilities to:

• Can read and make changes to your document
• Can send data over the Internet

Does anyone have any idea what this means? I'm concerned by using these there are potential security risks. Any thoughts?

Every add-in needs these permissions, because this is how they interact with your report:

• Can read and make changes to your document: this is how the tooltip actually functions, by reading the data in your report to give you the result that you want
• Cand send data over the internet: this is presumably for operation in the Power BI Service

If you check the majority of available add-ins, you'll see similar requirements. Additionally, all cusotm visuals on the marketplace are vetted by Microsoft.
