11 to 16 instances of Power BI run when I open a file - multiple mashups

As the title says.

Is this a setting? I can barely open the file to even configure.

Hi @Anonymous

Not able to reproduce that behavior, does it work fine after restart?

Here is a related article, please check if it helps,

View details about running processes with the Windows 10 Task Manager

Hi @Anonymous

How many PBIX files do you have open?  I am assuming you have several based on that.  I recommend saving and closing them down. If you can without causing problems, reboot, and then open one file and see what's happening.

Also, it may appear this way if you are refreshing / publishing reports to or on Power BI online.

Hope this helps.
Theo

Thanks...

That is the issue.. I only have one pbix file open.  Have tried restarting/reinstalling etc.

Appreciate the quick response!

@Anonymous thanks for letting me know.  A couple of questions:

1. How large is your PBIX file?

2. What type of data sources are you using?

3. How large are the data sources?

4. Are you using live data?

5. Does your data have a lot of text-based columns?

Text-based data can be very strenuous and require a lot of processing power, especially over large amounts of data and files.  If you have many small CSV/TXT files, this can cause lag and impact performance.

Let me know about the above and I'll be able to assist further (or someone on Community will :))

@TheoC Thanks for your help.  It is definitely a clunker of a query, but would that cause multiple processes of PowerBI to run when only one file is open?  I have had many large/unweildy queries/models in the past, but have not seen this...
Please see the answers to your questions below

1. How large is your PBIX file?

46,000 kbs

2. What type of data sources are you using?

ODBC, Excel files (from folders and Onedrive), PDFs

3. How large are the data sources?

They range from a few kb to gbs... much of it gets filtered

4. Are you using live data?

No

5. Does your data have a lot of text-based columns?

Not sure what would constitute "a lot"... I would say a few hundred in total- many of which get fitered out
