Unable to detect locally created files from Sharepoint Files Connection

Hi all, wanted to move some files from a Sharepoint Folder to Fabrics Lakehouse. I used the Sharepoint Folder connection in Fabrics Dataflows Gen2. After pasting in the URL, it can detect only some files in the sharepoint folder, such as downloads. Namely the files that were created by me locally e.g. .xlsx, .txt files cannot be detected both in data preview and after I proceed. For example, in Documents > Desktop, a downloaded file can be detected, but a .xlsx file I created and saved in the same place (Documents > Desktop) cannot be detected. I also tried setting the sharing to everyone in my organization, but it still does not work.

Any fixes to this?

Hello @JiHin,
Thanks for the additional details. Since locally created .xlsx and .txt files in your OneDrive Documents/Desktop folder aren’t detected by the SharePoint Folder connector and you’re getting a data source error with the subfolder URL, here are some steps to try:

  • In Dataflow Gen2, use the root URL (https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com/personal/[personal_email]) and navigate to Documents/Desktop in the Power Query navigator to avoid subfolder URL errors.
  • In the OneDrive web interface, confirm the .xlsx and .txt files are visible in Documents/Desktop with the same account. Check file properties (right-click > “Details”) for sync errors or restrictions.
  • On your laptop, right-click the OneDrive icon, select “View sync problems,” resolve issues, and pause/resume sync. Then, refresh the Dataflow.
  • In OneDrive, ensure files are checked in and Use the “OneDrive for Business” connector with the root URL instead of the SharePoint Folder connector. Navigate to Documents/Desktop in the navigator.
  • Copy the files to a new OneDrive folder and test if they’re detected there.

Just wanted to add on that it worked after the first step. I also created a custom file and you can access the files by manually changing the M code. ".../Documents/Desktop" -> ".../Documents/Ingest"

Hello @JiHin,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve this:

  • Check the URL used in the SharePoint Folder connector points to the correct folder in Power Query, use the navigator to confirm the folder contents.
  •  Try to re-authenticate the Connection and Upload a new .xlsx or .txt file to the same SharePoint folder and check if it’s detected. This can help determine if the issue is specific to certain files.
  • In Power Query, clear the cache under "Data source settings" and refresh the data preview to ensure it’s pulling the latest folder contents.
  • In SharePoint, verify that the locally created files have the same sharing settings as the detected files. Right-click the file, select "Manage Access," and ensure it’s shared with "Everyone”, or the account used in the Dataflow connection.

If the issue persists, try using the SharePoint Online List connector or a Web API connector with the direct file URL as a workaround. You can also test moving the files to a different SharePoint folder or OneDrive to see if they’re detected from there.

Thanks for the reply @v-ssriganesh , after trying all the listed methods, the issue is still unresolved. Here is more context that might help: My laptop automatically syncs things uploaded in desktop to the company OneDrive. The link I use in Sharepoint Folder connection goes like this:

https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com/personal/[personal_email]  . When I to go into the specific folder where the file is, https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com/personal/[personal_email]/Document/Desktop  , i get a dats source error.

Using the sharepoint link of https://[company_name]-my.sharepoint.com/personal/[personal_email]  , I can see files that are in the desktop, such as a yammerInstaller_Download file, but not the excel or text files I have created.

Hope this clarifies the situation. Thanks!
