User configuration issue" Error When Copying Data from On-Premises Server to Microsoft Fabric

Hello, community!

I’m working on a pipeline in Microsoft Fabric that collects data from an on-premises store server using On-premises Data Gateway. The pipeline includes "Copy data" activities to transfer data to a Fabric SQL Database, but I’m encountering an error: "User configuration issue" (error code 2010). This error occurs on the source side, causing the process to fail.

Data is retrieved from a local SQL Server via On-premises Data Gateway.

I’ll attach screenshots of the pipeline monitoring and error details for a deeper analysis. Please take a look and share your recommendations.

Current Status:

  • On-premises Data Gateway is showing Online status in Microsoft Fabric.
  • The gateway service is active on the servers, and I’ve verified network connectivity (firewall is configured, and internet is working).

I can’t figure out what’s wrong with the configuration. Could the issue be related to parameters, SQL queries, or gateway settings?

The error message is very brief and lacks detailed information, which makes it challenging to pinpoint and resolve the issue.

I’d greatly appreciate any assistance in diagnosing and resolving this error. Feel free to share advice, documentation links, or configuration examples!

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Avadiya444 ,

Thank you for the update. Based on your note that the error only happens when multiple pipelines run in parallel, this might points to a resource or concurrency issue with the On-premises Data Gateway.

Here are a few things to check:

  • Try limiting how many pipelines run at once. Too many can overwhelm the gateway or SQL Server.
  • If load is high, you could set up a gateway cluster to distribute it.
  • The gateway logs and system performance (CPU, memory) during failures might show if it’s being overloaded.
  • Enable retry policies in your pipelines to handle temporary spikes.

Hi @Avadiya444 ,
Thank you for reaching out to us on Microsoft Fabric Community Forum!

Thanks again for sharing the details and the screenshot. The "User configuration issue" usually means there is something off in the setup, often with the linked service, authentication, or the query itself. Since your gateway is online and network access is good, I would recommend double-checking that the correct gateway is selected, your credentials have the right permissions, and the SQL query works fine outside Fabric (like in SSMS). If you are using parameters, try testing with hardcoded values to narrow things down. Also, make sure the gateway is up to date and that the machine it is on can reach the SQL Server.
This guide might help you for understanding: Troubleshoot gateway errors

Hope this resolve your query. If so,give us kudos and consider accepting it as solution.

Pallavi.

Hi @Avadiya444,

I think, it comes from the Data Gateway configuration.

Did your gateway server is able to ping your SQL Server machine?

Can you try to update your gateway to the latest version?

Otherwise, are you able to access the Data Gateway logs to have more details about the error?

Regards,

Yohann

Hi @yvaubourg,

Sorry for late response.

I checked the links that you attached, and this doesn't seem to be related to the On-premises data gateway program on the store servers. As I understand, it is more about the load on this program. For example, when I do not launch all 11 pipelines with Copy Data at once, but instead run them individually, the "User Configuration error" does not occur.
Additionally, this issue also appears when other pipelines are running in parallel — the same error can occur in one of them.

Regards,

Avadiya
