I want to access oracle onpremise database in Data Pipeline in Microsoft Fabric

I want to access oracle onpremise database in Data Pipeline in Microsoft Fabric. I do not want to use onpremise data gateway but use virtual network data gateway. I have a virtual network data gateway created but it does not have the option to chose Oracle as a connection type. Any idea ?

Thanks for the information.

I am now actually trying to access Oracle on premise database in a notebook in Microsoft Fabric. Do you know if that is already possible?

Initially I got driver error but after doing some configurations now i get the network error. "ORA-17868: Unknown host specified" and i assume this is network error. But how can i resolve that?

You might consider using a Dataflow Gen2 within Data Factory for Microsoft Fabric. Data pipelines currently do not support on-premises gateways, but Dataflow Gen2 can be used to connect to on-premises data sources. Ensure that your firewall is configured to allow outbound connections to *.frontend.clouddatahub.net from the gateway for Fabric pipeline capabilities.

Yes I can use Dataflow Gen2 but I am looking for a solution where i do not have to provision an on-premise data gateway. It is possible to connect to On-premise database in Azure Databricks Notebooks so I am looking for the same in Microsoft Fabric notebooks. Can you check on this ?

Hi @cmukul007

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Currently, Microsoft Fabric notebooks do not directly support connecting to on-premise databases through the Power BI Gateway. Fabric Spark doesn’t do the integration with PBI gateway.

Hi @cmukul007

Thanks for using Microsoft Fabric Community.

Currently you cannot access an on-premise Oracle database in a Data Pipeline within Microsoft Fabric using a virtual network (VNet) gateway.

  • Virtual Network gateways are designed for connectivity between Azure Virtual Networks and on-premises locations. They don't provide the specific drivers or protocols needed to connect to an Oracle database.
  • Data Pipelines within Fabric rely on on-premises data gateways (OPDG) for on-premises data access. These gateways act as secure bridges between your on-premises environment and Azure Data Factory (the service behind Fabric data pipelines).

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
