How to Connect SAP ECC to Microsoft Fabric – No Native Support

Hi Fabric Community Team,

I am currently working on a project that involves extracting data from SAP ECC into Microsoft Fabric, and I have attempted to use both Copy Data Assistant and Dataflows Gen2 for this integration.

However, I am facing limitations as there appears to be no native SAP ECC connector available on either of these tools. I have explored options like ODATA services and ODBC via Data Gateway, but they require significant setup, custom exposure of data in SAP, and are not always feasible in enterprise environments.

Given the widespread use of ECC in enterprises, it would be extremely helpful to have:

  • A native SAP ECC connector in Copy Data Assistant and Dataflows Gen2
  • Support for standard extraction mechanisms like Direct table readings.

Can the Fabric team please advise:

  1. If SAP ECC connectivity is currently supported or planned?
  2. Are there any recommended patterns for ECC data extraction using only Fabric-native tools?

Any guidance or roadmap insights would be appreciated.

We badly struck there after F64 procured. not able to move even a single step there. NEED COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE IMMEDIATELY

Ramana Reddy

Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

1. Is SAP ECC connectivity currently supported or planned in Microsoft Fabric?

As of now, Microsoft Fabric does not natively support direct connectivity to SAP ECC through tools like Copy Data Assistant or Dataflows Gen2.

There has been no official announcement from Microsoft about a planned native connector for SAP ECC specifically within Fabric.

However, SAP integration (especially SAP BW and SAP HANA) has been a common request, and it's possible that future updates may include improved support. For now, SAP ECC connectivity requires using external tools to extract and stage the data before bringing it into Fabric.
we recommend posting or upvoting this feature on the Microsoft Fabric Ideas forum to help bring visibility to it.

2. Are there any recommended patterns for ECC data extraction using only Fabric-native tools?

At this time, there are no fully Fabric-native patterns for extracting data directly from SAP ECC.

Fabric tools cannot connect directly to ECC systems or read tables without help from external systems.

That said, a common and recommended workaround is:

  • Extract data from SAP ECC using external tools like:
    • Azure Data Factory (ADF) with the SAP ECC or SAP Table connector
    • Custom ABAP programs exporting flat files
    • ODBC connectors via On-Premises Data Gateway (complex setup)
  • Land the data in Azure Data Lake or Blob Storage
  • Use Fabric-native tools (Copy Data Assistant, Dataflows Gen2, or Lakehouse Shortcuts) to bring that data into Fabric for transformation, modeling, and reporting
