Automatically assign lakehouse to new workspace that is created

Hello all, I'm wondering if there's an option to automatically assign certain lakehouse when the workspace is created (and when you go to the notebook). I want to avoid manually linking certain lakehouse to the notebook.

Thanks!

Hi @gori137

Thanks for using Microsoft Fabric Community.

Microsoft Fabric currently doesn't automatically assign a specific lakehouse to a notebook when the workspace is created. But, you can add multiple lakehouses to the same notebook. By switching the available lakehouse in the left panel, you can explore the structure and the data from different lakehouses. In the lakehouse list, the pin icon next to the name of a lakehouse indicates that it's the default lakehouse in your current notebook.

For additional information please refer to the below documentations:

Link 1 : Connect lakehouses and notebooks.

Link 2 : Switch lakehouses and set a default.

However, your suggestion is definitely valuable! We use customer feedback like yours to prioritize future features. The more users who request the ability to customize backgrounds, the higher it moves on our list.

Appreciate if you could share the feedback on our Microsoft Fabric Ideas. Which would be open for the user community to upvote & comment on. This allows our product teams to effectively prioritize your request against our existing feature backlog and gives insight into the potential impact of implementing the suggested feature.

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Hello, thanks for your response. In the meantime, I found a community post with the same issue. It seems that there's a solution to attach a lakehouse to a workspace by the code. For me the code didn't work because %%configure command doesn't work.

Hi @gori137

Apologies for the delay in reponse.

The error message "UsageError: Line magic function '%%configure' not found" indicates that the %%configure magic command is not recognized by your current kernel in Microsoft Fabric Notebook.

Kernel mismatch: The %%configure magic command is specifically designed for use with the Spark kernel in Fabric Notebooks. If you are using a different kernel, like Python or R, then the %%configure command won't be available.

For additional information please refer : Spark session configuration magic command

I hope this information helps.

Thank you.
