Power BI / Fabric Notebook Error – “AzureNotebookRef has been disposed”

When trying to open or run a notebook in Power BI / Microsoft Fabric, I receive the following error:

Error: AzureNotebookRef has been disposed.

Diagnostic ID: bf9ac64d-3a06-4356-9e93-ede98af38953

Timestamp (UTC): 2025-11-01T08:09:31.240Z

It seems related to the Spark session or a broken notebook reference. I’ve already tried refreshing the page, reopening the notebook from the workspace, and clearing the browser cache, but the issue persists.

Could you please check if this is a known service issue or advise on next steps to restore notebook functionality?

This is happening to me as well, with chrome and in incognito mode.  However, if I use Edge and InPrivateMode, I'm able to open a notebook.  I cleared browser history in Chrome, tried again and still get the same error for every notebook I try to open.  Anyone found a permanent solution to this yet?

Hi @steeleman5000,

Thanks for sharing the update. It looks like this issue is mainly happening in Chrome. Since it’s working properly in Edge InPrivate mode, the service side seems fine and the problem might be due to some cache or session issue in Chrome. You can try clearing site data for app.fabric.microsoft.com from Chrome settings and then sign out and sign in again to Fabric. After that, try opening the notebook once more. If you still face the same error, you can continue using Edge as a temporary fix.

please go through with the below document hope it may resolve your Issue

Hope this helps if you have any queries we are  happy to assist you further.

I’m experiencing the same issue across Edge, Chrome, and Safari.

The only workaround that worked for me was to log in with a different user account, open the notebook, and then switch back to my original account — after that, it started working properly.

Hi @Master_PBI,
I hope the above details help you fix the issue. If you still have any questions or need more help, feel free to reach out. We are always here to support you.

I opened a support ticket and they confirmed with the Backend Escalation team that the fix is scheduled to be deployed by end of November.  I tried clearing cache & incognito mode with Chrome, this did not fix the issue.  Currently, only InPrivate mode in Edge works so I'll continue using that until Microsoft Devs fix the issue for Chrome.

Hi @steeleman5000,
Thanks for the update and for sharing the details. It’s good to know you’ve already connected with the support team and they’re working on it. For now, you can continue using the available workaround until the fix is fully applied and I look forward to any further updates you may share.

This seems like a transient error, most likely by this time you would have this figure out and everything is working normally, just for the sake of ...

#1. Restart the Spark Session

#2. Check Session Timeout Settings, If the session was inactive for too long, it may have been disposed... adjust the timeout settings.

Is is still an issue? Let me know, if not, hope some thumbs up and accepted this as a solution.
